Rabies is a zoonotic disease that can be transmitted through the bite of an infected rabies-transmitting animal (HPR) and is a serious threat to public health. This community service aims to reduce the risk of rabies spreading through a mass vaccination program for pets. Rabies vaccination was carried out on 151 pets consisting of 126 (83.45%) dogs, 23 (15.23%) cats, and 2 (1.32%) monkeys. The method used was mass vaccination of pets owned by the community of Palas Village, Rumbai District, Pekanbaru City by involving pet owners. This activity received a positive response from the local community, as indicated by the high participation in the vaccination activity. It can be concluded that this rabies vaccination program plays an important role in preventing potential rabies outbreaks and supporting the creation of a safer and healthier environment for the community in Palas Village.
Abstrak
Rabies adalah penyakit zoonosis yang dapat ditularkan melalui gigitan hewan penular rabies (HPR) yang terinfeksi dan menjadi ancaman serius bagi kesehatan masyarakat. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk menekan risiko penyebaran rabies melalui program vaksinasi massal pada hewan peliharaan. Edukasi rabies diikuti oleh 50 orang siswa/i sekolah dasar. Vaksinasi rabies dilakukan terhadap 151 ekor hewan peliharaan yang terdiri dari 126 (83,44%) ekor anjing, 23 (15,23%) ekor kucing, dan 2 (1,32%) ekor monyet. Metode yang digunakan adalah vaksinasi massal pada hewan peliharaan milik masyarakat Kelurahan Palas, Kecamatan Rumbai, Kota Peknbaru dengan melibatkan pemilik hewan peliharaan. Kegiatan ini mendapat respons positif dari masyarakat setempat, yang ditunjukkan dengan tingginya partisipasi dalam kegiatan vaksinasi. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa program vaksinasi rabies ini berperan penting dalam mencegah potensi wabah rabies dan mendukung terciptanya lingkungan yang lebih aman dan sehat bagi masyarakat di Kelurahan Palas.
