Abstract

Improper medical waste management in dental practices can pose health and environmental risks. This study aims to enhance dental nurses' understanding of medical waste sorting in Pekanbaru. The method involved providing counseling and assessing knowledge through pretest and posttest questionnaires. Ten dental nurses were invited to attend a session on the segregation of infectious and non infectious waste. Results showed an increase in knowledge from 72% to 97% and a positive attitude from 82% to 100% after the session. This program successfully reinforced awareness of proper medical waste management practices. In conclusion, the counseling effectively raised dental nurses' awareness of medical waste risks, promoting safer practices in dental healthcare settings.

Abstrack

Pengelolaan limbah medis yang tidak tepat dalam praktik kedokteran gigi dapat menimbulkan risiko kesehatan dan lingkungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman perawat gigi tentang pemilahan limbah medis di Pekanbaru. Metode yang digunakan adalah dengan memberikan penyuluhan dan menilai pengetahuan melalui kuesioner pre-test dan post-test. Sepuluh perawat gigi diundang untuk mengikuti sesi tentang pemilahan limbah infeksius dan non infeksius. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan dari 72% menjadi 97% dan sikap positif dari 82% menjadi 100% setelah sesi. Program ini berhasil memperkuat kesadaran tentang praktik pengelolaan limbah medis yang tepat. Sebagai kesimpulan, penyuluhan tersebut secara efektif meningkatkan kesadaran perawat gigi tentang risiko limbah medis, sehingga mendorong praktik yang lebih aman dalam pengaturan perawatan kesehatan gigi.
